MySpace
No new news in this, but I really hate Myspace (no links here, they don’t deserve it). There are a good number of reasons to hate on Myspace, could it be the troubled teens posting pictures of themselves being troubled? Perhaps it has something to do with all the incredibly tacky backgrounds or the music that blares ever time you hit a Myspace page. Could it be the fact that it always crashes when you login? How about those pages that are three miles long and 10 megs in size? I could come up with a incredibly long list of reasons to hate Myspace, but instead of whining I opted for the more creative solution.
Yes, I do have an account on Myspace. It may sound like hipocracy to have an account with a service you are publicly trashing but I must say that Myspace is one of the only ways I know to connect with the various people I know. Instead of completely ditching Myspace I decided to go creative and re-route people to my site here. Good thing the gullible suckers let you embed html and css in your page. It isn’t as easy as it may seem since they prohibit javascript, and replace the script tag with … Even my best attempt to trick the system with embeded ColdFusion code and meta refreshes was thwarted. A small div and some CSS turned fixed that little problem.
Myspace never had it right, even when they where owned by the spyware factory Intermix media. I believe the real kiss of death occured when they where purchased by News Corp. back in July. News Corp. being a new player in the Web 2.0 game clearly doesn’t have the expertise to clean up the crap that exists on Myspace and turn it into a respectable social networking. Perhaps if Yahoo or Google would have purchased the company it would have had a chance, but now it’s a lost cause.
I look for Myspace to lose appeal by the middle of next year.
[...] After having ripped on MySpace a while ago it may seem odd that I’m about to defend them, but here goes. [...]
