Who Designed This?

One for the interface hall of shame.Every once in a while a user interface design comes along so ugly and non-functional that it makes you wonder who designed that. There used to be a user interface hall of shame but it doesn’t seem to be maintained anymore, this new one would be a great excuse to open it back up. One of the most obvious ones is Lotus Notes which still is pretty clunky, here comes another, Microsoft Office 12. Yes, Microsoft has tried to completely change the way we work with their new software. Why? Does anybody mind Office the way it is? Most people are very comfortable with the old way, as well we should be, we have been conditioned for years to work like that. Check out the screenshot to the right. Another thing to notice is that this looks very much like a Macintosh application… hmmm.

I wonder who’s brilliant idea it was to completely remove all familiar interface elements ande replace them with a huge bar at the top of the screen. That thing takes up a log of screen real estate and it doesn’t appear to be configurable. Plus, since when did yellow become a good user interface color? I swear, Microsoft, pull your collective heads out. And everybody else, go get OpenOffice (and no this whole thing is a pimp for OO, I just couldn’t resist ending like that).
