Hack: Gmail and Reader

I love the feature in Gmail that lets you preview RSS feeds at the top of your inbox but have always hated the fact that if I used it there was no way to keep it in sync with my main RSS reader (which is Google Reader). There isn’t even so much as a OPML import/export feature, I would have to enter all 60 or so of my feeds into both Reader and Gmail… booo.

One day I got the brilliant idea to build a tag called gmail-feed and share it then tell Gmail to use it as the source for its webclips. What a great idea, the only problem is it didn’t work for one reason or another. Until today… With the upgrade of Reader whatever was wrong with Gmail reading a Reader atom feed has been fixed and I now have my webclips back and they are managed from Reader. Too cool!

  1. This is exactly the staff I am looking for! Would you mind to instruct me a little further on how you did it? Thanks!
