Phone Book

Yesterday I got a new phone book, which I will never use. As I tossed it in the trash I wonder… that is a lot of wasted paper. It certainly can’t be cheap to produce, edit, print and deliver something like a phone book, and in this internet age does anybody even look at phone books? Being an incredibly well connected person I’m not often away from an internet connection long enough to need a phone book, and if I am Google Local SMS is usually easier and faster than looking up the number I want. Is it just me or are phone books a total waste of resources?

  1. Mike,
I think you can recycle phone books.
Somebody needs to come up with some new uses for them, doorstops, etc.
    It is a terrible waste.

  2. Like so much else, a phone book is really just a way to sell adverts. It’s got almost nothing to do with looking up numbers. And yes they are a complete waste of resources but they still cost less to produce than they generate in revenue.
